This is an attempt to make a 70s-style themed poster depicting Mel and Mark performing together in an abstract/poster scene. It is also my first attempt at making a poster that looks aged with paper texture and halftone effects, and other stuff.
Mel is shirtless, and he is holding an old-style microphone. His melodica key shaped teeth and piano key textured/coloured tongue are visible while he seems to sing passionately. His singing is coming out of his gills mainly and secondarily out of his mouth – he actually speaks with reeds (instead of vocal cords) that are positioned in his throat, and this drawing shows such an anatomical mechanism of his melodica person nature in action.
Mark is floating and playing a normal melodica with his arms being stretched out abnormally – he can do that as he is a gas person and has boneless, rubber limbs.
Facts about this piece
- The inspiration behind “Performance” was me being bored of my indoor decoration in my house, having lived independently for one year and lacking intentional wall decorations and wanting to make a cool poster. I was decorating my house to be 70s themed at that time, and wanted something special and fitting on my wall. It still hasn’t been printed into a poster yet (April 2026).
- A particular person whom I showed this art to had a single thought about this piece, and their thought was “I am 99% sure you have drawn them having sex”. I have, but that’s none of your business.
- The melodica that Mark is holding is inspired by the Suzuki Melodion M-37C Plus, except drawn inverted in colour (blue in the place of orange) and with a white hose instead of the standard M-37C black one – the white hose is actually the hose of the Melodion M-36 (70s model) that I own since October 2025 that inspired the Mel OC to exist. This specific melodica model was a melodica I was sort of crushing on when I first got my melodica fixation all the way back in 2021, my dream melodica!
